Week 2 Reflection

After completing the assignment for week 2, I realized how difficult it was going to be to collect data on increasing parental involvement on my campus as the student population is constantly changing and it would be difficult to track.  So I made a change and decided to look at the effectiveness of our campus BMR (in school suspension room) by looking at if it is helping students change their behavior and be more successful.  I will look at students grades and referrals before, during, and after placement to see what effect it has on their achievement.  I will then look at what changes need to be made (if any) to increase student achievement.

  2. I also wanted to do my action research project over increasing parent involvement and changed my mind. The topic is just too broad.

    1. Yes, it is something that I want to address this school year, but it will not be the official action research project. What are you planning on doing instead?

  3. Grr! I posted this long response to your post and it never posted! Anyway, I really like this idea. It will be interesting to see what your results are, and what effect, if any, the person in ISS has on the students. I think that is one main thing---if the person in the ISS classroom is so lax, then nothing good will happen. Is your person strict and sassy or laid back and lazy?

    1. The teacher is an ex-army and utilizes techniques that work for some kids but not others. This classroom has had the highest amount of violation reports written on campus for the past years and I am wondering if I can look at individual student data and see if we can tweak the classroom a little bit.

  4. ISS is an interesting issue. I wonder what the statistics will prove. I know sometimes kids get into trouble just to leave the classroom settings. I've also have witnessed students in ISS and it is very quite and demanding. The kids are supposed to be doing the work that teachers send them.

    Good luck!

    1. Yes I have this same theory....many kids who return to regular classrooms request to go back to ISS which seems to negate it as a discipline tactic.
