You have a great idea for your action research project. I would find a current school calendar and find some specific dates with your timeline. Also, I noticed that you didn't have principals written down as a resource unless it's just their name, so if you did...great, but if not then that's another suggestion. Good luck!

Sheenah made some great suggestions I am going to consider. Ashely- Do you have any idea of what types of techniques you will try to change behavior in ISS?
ReplyDeleteYou know, this is a great topic for research. Students can't learn if they are not in the classroom. Often times, I think students are just given busy work while in ISS. I am not sure what the protocol is on your campus, but I would also try to schedule some time to go in and observe. You will be able to gather information that way also. Additionally, I am wondering if there is a way you can start implementing earlier? Spring fever in March is going to be hard to work through and most of the year has passed. However, it is wise of you to spend some time early on gathering current data. Good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteI like your research topic! I agree that students benefit from being in the classroom as much as possible, but I also like the idea of ISS more than OSS. At least in ISS, they are still in somewhat of an instructional environment rather than being in bed or playing video games at home. I think improvements on the program would be extremely beneficial.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful topic. I know that ISS has been an issue at our school for years. Teachers always send work but it is not the work that is being done in the classroom. Last year, we had teachers from each content go into the ISS room and teacher a lesson during their conference period. It seemed to help.....most of the students are the same ones over and over again. Good luck with this one. I look forward to seeing your results.
ReplyDeleteThis is an excellent plan. Maybe implementation of CHAMPS or Love and Logic would benefit these students as well. Just a couple of resources to think about. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteDee Ann,
DeleteAll of our teachers are trained in Love in Logic, but I dont think all of them utilized it effectively so maybe it needs to be readdressed.
Thanks!
Thanks everyone for all the comments, I was out of town for a long weekend and haven't yet responded. I will consider all of you suggestions and really appreciate your input!
